30 MLD STP on Combitreat ISBR at Akurdi

This 30 MLD Capacity Sewage Treatment Plant was inaugurated in December 2011 by Hon. Dy. CM Mr. Ajit Dada Pawar at Akurdi. The plant lies under the jurisdiction of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), Pune.

Combitreat I-SBR i.e. Improved - Sequential Batch Reactor was chosen from a myraid of other processes due to its unique characteristics. It is has a minimal land requirement which makes it the best fit in any type of environment, including densely populated urban areas. The process is fully automated and delivers outlet water that exhibits excellent pollutant removal and with final contaminant levels much lesser than those prescribed by Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB).
The unique feature of this technology is a combination of both aerobic and anaerobic processes which provides a condition that is conducive for microbial growth. As a result, more organic content and suspended solids are removed than other existing methods. Moreover, this process successfuly removes dissolved nutrients like nitrates and phosphorous. The outlet water characteristics are well within the ranges prescribed by MPCB.

This technology not only saves energy, but also generates electricity. This is achieved through the use of Hydrostatic Head (Hydro-electricity) and Methane/Biogas Combustion. Hydrostatic Head is available through methodical process and detailed engineering design. Methane is produced during various anerobic processes encountered during the course of treatment. Combination of both Methane based electricity and hydro-electricity makes the plant almost self relient with 80% of required electricity being produced by itself !
