Activated Sludge Process (ASP)

Activated Sludge Process (ASP) is one of the oldest and highly reliable method for sewage treatment. ASP consists of Primary Clarification of sewage followed by aeration in an aeration tank followed by secondary clarification. Aeration can be provided using surface or diffused aerators. The sludge collected from primary clarifier is used for biogas generation while that from secondary clarifier is re-circulated to the aeration tank. Excess digested sludge is disposed off.
Advantages of Activated Sludge Process are:
  • Reliable process
  • Biogas generation is possible and electricity can be generated
  • Moderate outlet quality

ASP is known to require large amount of area and the outlet quality achieved is moderate. There is usually no provision for Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR). These problems have been overcome by our indigenously designed Sequential Batch Reactor (Improved)
